Promise
Genesis 3:15
In Genesis 3, God addresses the serpent, Satan, who deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden. He tells the serpent that He will put enmity between him and the woman. “Enmity” is hostility or hatred. From the moment sin entered the world through Adam and Eve, humanity has been waging a spiritual battle. Paul addresses this very issue in his letter to the church in Ephesus, stating: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens” (Ephesians 6:12).
However, in this same text God promises that He will provide a male offspring through the seed of a woman. The heel of the offspring will be bruised by Satan, but not crushed, while the serpent’s head would be crushed by the offspring’s heel. The promised male offspring is Jesus Christ! Jesus lived a perfect, sinless, and blameless life and died on the cross, taking on all the sins of humanity so that, through faith, humanity could be restored back to God. The key here is that after Jesus died He didn’t stay dead. He rose victorious over sin and death, crushing the head of Satan. God made a commitment from the beginning that He would not abandon His creation to destruction, but rather would pursue it with love through Jesus.
Prayer:
God, help me to believe and remember that the battle I am fighting is not against flesh and blood, but the spiritual darkness of this world. Thank you for promising deliverance and providing it through Jesus!
Question to consider:
What battle are you facing right now that you need to give to Jesus?
